Estimate only. Each trip uses the IRS standard rate for its date: business 70¢ (2025), 72.5¢ (Jan–Jun 2026) and 76¢ (from Jul 1, 2026); medical 21¢, 20.5¢ and 23.5¢; charity 14¢. Verify on irs.gov for your tax year. The override replaces the business rate only. Commuting between home and your regular workplace is generally not deductible. Keep records: date, destination, business purpose, and miles — all of which this log captures.

How it works

Logs each trip and works out your mileage deduction at the IRS standard rate for that trip's date. Saves the log in your browser and exports CSV.

  1. Miles for a trip = End odometer minus Start odometer. If that is zero or negative, the tool uses the number in the Miles box instead.
  2. The rate comes from the trip date. Business: 70 cents for 2025, 72.5 cents for Jan 1 to Jun 30, 2026, and 76 cents from Jul 1, 2026.
  3. Medical: 21 cents (2025), 20.5 cents (Jan to Jun 2026), 23.5 cents (from Jul 1, 2026). Charity is 14 cents in every period. Personal trips count $0. 2024 trips use 67 cents business, 21 medical and 14 charity.
  4. Deduction for a trip = miles × rate. The Rate override box (cents per mile) replaces the business rate only. Totals add every trip that passes the year and purpose filters.
  5. Trips save in this browser's local storage and the page code does not upload them. Export CSV writes the log to a file. This is a planning estimate, not tax advice.

Questions

Why did my deduction change for trips after July 1?
Each trip is priced at the rate for its own date. Business trips from Jul 1, 2026 use 76 cents, and earlier 2026 trips use 72.5 cents. The IRS rate card at the top shows the rate for today's date.
Can I deduct my commute?
The page notes that commuting between home and your regular workplace is generally not deductible. Keep the date, destination, business purpose and miles for each trip. This is an estimate, so verify rates and rules on irs.gov.
Where is my log stored, and how do I keep a copy?
It is stored in your browser on this device. Clear all deletes every trip after you confirm. Use Export CSV to save a copy, and Import CSV to load a log back in.
