Missed-Call Cost Calculator

You're under a house or on a roof — the phone rings, you can't grab it, and by the time you call back they've booked the guy who answered. Here's what that actually costs you each month.

Your missed calls

8
After-hours, on a job, hands full, second caller while you're already on the phone. Most solo trades miss more than they think.
50%
Calls outside 8–5 that go straight to voicemail. These are the easiest to lose and the easiest to win back.

What a caught call is worth

45%
Your real close rate when you actually talk to a lead. Be honest — not everyone buys.
Typical ticket for the work that comes in over the phone.

If you caught them

70%
An instant text-back + a 24/7 answer doesn't catch 100% — but it stops the lead from dialing the next guy while you finish the job.

How it works

Estimates what the phone calls you miss cost each month and year in lost jobs, and how much you could win back by catching a share of them.

  1. Missed calls per month = Calls you miss per week × 4.33.
  2. Jobs lost = missed calls per month × the share you would book. Money lost per month = jobs lost × Average value of a job. Per year = monthly × 12.
  3. After-hours lost = money lost per month × Share that ring after hours. This only fills the After-hours lost tile. It does not change the total.
  4. Recovered per month = money lost per month × Share of missed calls you could catch. Recovered per year = that × 12. Dollars and counts round to whole numbers.
  5. The trade buttons (Electrician, HVAC, Plumber, Roofer, General contractor) only fill in calls per week, the share you would book and the job value. You can change any field after.

Questions

Does the after-hours slider change my total?
No. It only splits out how much of the monthly loss falls after hours, shown in the After-hours lost tile. The total and the recovered amount do not use it.
What should I enter for how many calls I would book?
Use your real close rate when you actually talk to a lead. The page asks you to be honest, since not everyone buys. A higher number raises the jobs lost and the dollar loss.
Is the recovered amount a promise?
No. It is the monthly loss times the share you say you could catch. If you set the catch share to 70%, it shows 70% of the loss. Change the slider to test other cases.
